Michael B. Jordan won a well-deserved Actor award for his leading performance(s) in Sinners while the film itself took the top prize of the night for its ensemble cast. Delroy Lindo accepted on behalf of the cast of Sinners and seemed pleasantly astonished by the win which was so earned. Lindo got emotional on stage at the end of the night.

Jordan played twin brothers Smoke and Stack in Sinners. Playing a dual role in Sinners was no easy task and the actor excelled in his truly phenomenal work in Ryan Coogler’s masterpiece. Sinners is truly a great film and bested One Battle After Another for the top Actor award prize which definitely “ups” its chances at possibly winning the Oscar for Best Picture.
One Battle After Another earned Sean Penn a Best Supporting Actor award for his terrific and raw performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie. Meanwhile, the great Amy Madigan won for her effective and creepy supporting turn in Weapons. Madigan came on-stage and made a fun acceptance speech, even bringing “Barbie” dolls into the mix.
There was a remarkable Life Achievement award presented to Harrison Ford tonight which led to a heartfelt speech from the amazing Ford whose legendary career is certainly something to be cherished. Woody Harrelson presented the award to the wonderfully elegant Ford who talked about how he faced challenges on the road to his success many years ago.
In the biggest upset of the night, Rose Byrne lost Best Actress to Jessie Buckley who won for Hamnet. It’s probably going to be Buckley who ultimately wins the Oscar, but A24 didn’t really market Byrne’s film, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, too well in its theatrical release. It was an unfair situation for Byrne, but if there was anybody she had to lose to, Buckley turned in the next-best performance.
Sinners proves Michael B. Jordan is a talent to be reckoned with. He is a unique and gifted performer who nailed the performance(s) of his career in Coogler’s vampire picture. Sinners was much more than a basic vampire movie. It, quite simply, was a phenomenon in every sense of the word. It’s surprising this is the first major award that Sinners has won as a movie, but it opens up the possibility of that coveted Oscar win. All signs have pointed to a win for One Battle After Another until now. Sinners has emerged as a potential Best Picture Academy Award winner as FilmBook originally predicted it would be several months ago.
